What Is a Beta Course Launch (And Why You as a Course Creator Should Care)
When you think about launching an online course to take advantage of the work they’re already doing, they make the mistake of thinking they need to have EVERYTHING figured out before you can launch out.
So you sit down and map out your topics, flesh out the talking points, create the slide decks, maybe even record all the videos for each module.
Only to launch it and receive less than lukewarm engagement. And you realize it wasn’t what your audience wanted after all.
And the thought of having to go through the WHOLE process all over again – creating a new outline, re-shooting video…
This is why BETA LAUNCHES are a good idea.
You launch the IDEA of your course. And you create the module and release them as you go along, incorporating feedback each week to make the course more relevant to your target audience.
I’m working with two clients at the moment
One is going to do her beta launch in the fall.
Another is exploring the possibility of putting her course online.
Both clients are very different.
One is a coaching client and all the materials she needs are her expertise, Zoom, and online materials.
The other is an art teacher, and for her, she would need physical supplies for her students.
But if you can imagine cooking classes – which require supplies aka ingredients and tools aka stove, mixing utensils, etc – a lot of those are popular and SUCCESSFUL online.
We work on course validation – which means, are people willing to pay money for what you’re teaching?
Most of the time, if the client already has a long standing successful face-to-face business, then the need is there, and the validation is half done.
We work on running a test session of the course – this is where the BETA comes in.
As with anything that is a test session – we’re working out the kinks from a marketing (funnels, copy, etc) and tech (course platform, Zoom) and user (Q&A).
Because we’re not a fully polished product yet, we charge less – hopefully to cover all the setup fees (copywriter, graphic designer, course platform, Zoom, etc).
So if you think about it, we’re charging to have others help us with creating the finished / polished product and the participants get the course material at a significantly lower price. Win-Win.
I love win-win scenarios. It brightens my day.
